Michael T. Hironaka, DDS, MD

Meet Dr. Hironaka

A Hawaii native, Dr. Hironaka was introduced to oral surgery during his first year of dental school. He was drawn to the complexities of dental and facial reconstruction cases. As both an oral surgeon and physician, he is interested in the blend of dentistry and medicine and how to safely administer anesthesia in various forms.

Dr. Hironaka joined Oral Surgery Hawaii in 2022 and is excited to collaborate with other surgeons on a daily basis in order to provide exceptional care for his patients. He finds it rewarding to help people and see firsthand the psychological and social impacts of oral surgery. Dr. Hironaka understands that it is seldom “fun” to undergo surgery, but he helps his patients feel comfortable by approaching every case with patience and empathy, and he provides a clear, concise plan that outlines expectations from the beginning.

Education and Residency

After earning a BS from Creighton University in 2011, Dr. Hironaka earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Creighton School of Dentistry in 2016 and his Medical Degree (MD) from LSU School of Medicine in 2019. He earned his certificate in oral surgery after completing a residency at LSU in 2022.

Certifications

Dr. Hironaka is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society and Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit colleges and universities.

Outside the Office

Dr. Hironaka enjoys hiking with his fiancée and Bentley, his golden retriever. He likes golfing and recently started playing in his last year of residency—he enjoys the challenge and constant pursuit of improving his swing. Giving back to his community is very important to him, and he looks forward to volunteering at local community clinics.
